Narnia 4: The Silver Chair follows a new chapter in the magical land of Narnia, many years after the reign of the Pevensie siblings. The story begins with Jill Pole, a lonely and anxious schoolgirl who struggles with bullies at her boarding school. One afternoon, while fleeing from her tormentors, she encounters Eustace Scrubb, who had previously been to Narnia. As they try to hide, the two suddenly find themselves transported to a cliffside in another world, where Jill meets Aslan and learns of a dangerous mission: they must find Prince Rilian, the missing son of King Caspian.

Eustace and Jill are soon guided to the ruined giant stairs that mark the borders of the north. There, they are joined by Puddleglum, a gloomy yet brave Marshwiggle who becomes their steadfast companion. Though Puddleglum often imagines the worst possible outcome, his wisdom and quiet courage help keep the children focused. Their journey begins across wild moors and strange landscapes, where they must follow Aslan’s signs—mysterious instructions that Jill must remember despite the challenges ahead.

Their travels lead them to the land of giants, a place both terrifying and strangely comical. At first, the giants appear welcoming, inviting the travelers to a grand feast. But soon Jill and Eustace discover that the giants plan to cook them as part of a horrifying celebration. Narrowly escaping, the trio ventures into colder, darker regions until they find themselves descending into the Underland, a gloomy realm ruled by the enigmatic Lady of the Green Kirtle.
In the deep caverns of the Underland, they finally discover Prince Rilian, who has been enchanted for years. Bound to a silver chair that controls his mind, he spends most of his days unaware of his true identity, forced to obey the Lady’s commands. Only once each night does he regain his sanity for a brief moment, begging to be freed, though his captors have convinced him that his pleas are madness.

When the moment of truth arrives, Jill, Eustace, and Puddleglum must decide whether to trust Rilian’s desperate cries. With courage and faith, they destroy the silver chair, breaking the enchantment. Enraged, the Lady transforms into a monstrous serpent, forcing the group into a fierce battle that ends with Rilian reclaiming his memories and freedom.
Returning to Narnia, Rilian reunites with his aging father, King Caspian, in an emotional scene filled with regret and joy. Despite Caspian’s failing health, he sees his kingdom restored and his son safe once more. Aslan eventually returns Jill and Eustace to their world, leaving them forever changed by their courage and the unforgettable adventure in Narnia.
