Spider-Man 4 picks up after the emotional ending of the previous film, where Peter Parker now lives in complete anonymity. No one remembers who he is, and the loneliness of his new life weighs heavily on him. Despite this, he continues his duty as Spider-Man, swinging through the city at night and stopping crimes quietly, without the support network he once had. The film opens with Peter juggling a modest job, a small apartment, and the constant struggle of doing the right thing even when no one knows the man behind the mask.

As Peter searches for a renewed sense of purpose, a new threat emerges in New York: Adrian Toomes’ stolen experimental technology is being sold on the black market. A mysterious criminal mastermind known only as “The Broker” begins arming local gangs with dangerous hybrid tech. The rise of these enhanced criminal groups pushes Spider-Man to his limits, forcing him into increasingly intense battles that leave him physically exhausted and emotionally drained.
During an unexpected encounter, Peter meets a young investigative journalist named Mia Flores, who is determined to uncover the source of the new tech flooding the streets. Although Peter tries to keep his distance, Mia’s persistence and courage remind him of the connections he sacrificed. Their growing friendship becomes one of the film’s emotional anchors, even as Peter struggles with the fear of hurting anyone who gets too close to his double life.

As Spider-Man digs deeper into the criminal network, he discovers that “The Broker” is actually a disgraced scientist, Dr. Roderick Kingsley, who has been secretly developing a new persona: the Hobgoblin. Kingsley’s obsession with proving his brilliance drives him to unleash chaos across the city using experimental gliders, enhanced explosives, and stolen Oscorp prototypes. His unpredictability and cruelty make him one of Peter’s most dangerous foes yet.
The conflict escalates when Hobgoblin targets Mia, believing she holds information that could expose his operation. Peter faces an impossible choice: save Mia without revealing who he is, or risk losing the last meaningful connection he has. This internal struggle gives the film its emotional depth, as Peter confronts the consequences of a life lived entirely behind a mask.
In the climactic battle, Spider-Man and Hobgoblin face off above the city skyline in a visually stunning aerial showdown. Peter ultimately stops Kingsley, but not without severe injuries and further emotional cost. The fight forces him to accept that he can never fully escape the sacrifices that come with being Spider-Man.
The film ends quietly, with Peter finding a small sense of hope. Mia survives and continues her work, unaware of the hero who saved her, while Peter stands atop a skyscraper at dawn. Though he remains alone, he realizes that his purpose is unchanged: no matter how much he loses, Spider-Man must rise again to protect the city he loves.
