“The Silent Tongue” (2025) opens with a haunting serenity as a remote mountain village falls under a strange and terrifying affliction. People begin losing their voices overnight, waking to find themselves unable to speak, scream, or whisper. At first, the villagers believe it to be an illness, but fear spreads quickly as they realize the silence is not natural. A young woman named Elara, known for her gift of storytelling, becomes one of the first to feel the presence of something lurking in the darkness—an unseen entity that feeds on sound and hunts through silence.
The film follows Elara’s desperate search for answers after her younger brother becomes one of the afflicted. Despite her growing fear, she begins noticing symbols carved into trees and stones throughout the forest, markings she recalls from old legends told by her grandmother. These legends speak of a creature called the Tongue-Taker, a vengeful spirit born from forgotten voices and ancient injustices. The villagers, skeptical at first, are soon forced to acknowledge the danger as more people fall victim to the crippling silence.
Elara teams up with Kael, a former wanderer who returned to the village searching for redemption after a troubled past. Their partnership is cautious but necessary as they venture deeper into the forest, guided only by scraps of folklore and fading memories. The forest itself becomes a character—breathing, shifting, and watching—its stillness broken only by faint echoes that do not belong to any living thing. The deeper they go, the more Elara feels the presence closing in, as if the creature can taste the fear in her unspoken words.
As their journey continues, Elara discovers that the Tongue-Taker was once a guardian spirit silenced by betrayal and violence long ago. The creature’s rage grew over centuries, transforming it into a predator that steals voices to rebuild its own. The realization that the village’s ancestors were responsible for the spirit’s suffering forces Elara to confront the truth behind their traditions, challenging everything she once believed about her home.
The tension intensifies as the entity begins stalking Elara directly, mimicking the voices of loved ones she no longer hears. Nights in the forest become a waking nightmare, filled with distorted murmurs and glimpses of a shadow moving between the trees. Kael, struggling with his own guilt, fights to protect her, but the creature grows stronger with each voice it claims.
In a final confrontation at an ancient shrine, Elara risks her own voice to awaken the spirit’s buried memories, offering compassion instead of fear. Her act of sacrifice brings the creature momentarily back to its old self, allowing the stolen voices to return and the curse to break. “The Silent Tongue” ends with the village slowly regaining sound, yet forever marked by what happened, as Elara walks into the dawn knowing that some stories demand to be spoken, no matter the cost.
